As announced by the UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed, UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, passed away on Friday, 13th May.
According to Wam’s statement “The Ministry of Presidential Affairs condoles the people of the UAE, the Arab and Islamic nation and the world over the demise of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the UAE”.
Succeeded by his father the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who served as the UAE president from 1971 until his demise on November 2, 2004. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed being the eldest son of Sheikh Zayed was elected as the president of the UAE upon his demise.
Since November 3, 2004, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has served as President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. He was the UAE’s second President and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s 16th Ruler.
Under his prime leadership, the country flourished and experienced remarkable development in various sectors that promoted a fair standard of living for its citizens. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed was loved by his people for security and stability. His Highness oversaw the growth of the oil and gas sector, downstream sectors, and restructured the Federal administration as well as the Abu Dhabi government, which have helped the country diversify its economy.
The Ministry of Presidential Affairs has declared 40 days of mourning with flags will be flown at half-mast and all the public and private entities will be closed for three days, starting today (Friday 13 May 2022).
